Hi, Sorry for the late response, end of the school year gets crazy! We all really enjoyed it. Some students had lunch with your crew before the presentation and really appreciated the extra time. Students volunteered to stay after to help clean and chat more. Because we are a smaller residential school sometimes we have the same kids for a year or two, however Steve said we could possibly schedule a different speaker if we wanted to offer another experience. The banner is hanging in our school house. The packet about teamwork and captain/leadership qualities is awesome, I plan on using that in my P.E. classes. I am reaching out to our English teachers to see if they can incorporate Steves book into their curriculum somehow. Some students have borrowed it to read already. Here are some emails I got from some students who attended!

We are very thankful for the program yesterday. Chris was sincere and did a great job sharing his story. We would love to be considered in the future for similar programs. It was a tough but necessary message for our students.

There has been so much positive feedback from students! Our sophomore and junior classes participated in Choices Matter’s interactive and riveting presentation series. One student shared this message:

I wanted to send you a quick thank you for your persistence in getting Choices Matter to Winslow High School. I know that principals can be hard to reach sometimes, but I truly appreciate you keeping on me to get Choices Matter and Steve Emt to Winslow High School. There was a great buzz at the school yesterday and I have heard from parents how their students had come home talking about the presentation.

I learned that even when you’re having the best time of your life don’t assume that it will all go your way anything can happen whether you like it or not, but it is your decision and yours only don’t let anyone manipulate you in to thinking differently. My favorite part was when he talked about his Olympic career. He was extremely concise and to the point never once going of topic or changing the subject which makes it easy to understand. He hit hard and what I mean by that is, I’ve heard so many people say the same thing but unlike everyone else I felt that he cared about the message he was sending. I connected a lot of what he was saying because of the fact that he expressed that no one is the same even when it comes to how to help them through a hard time but you at least have to try to give them some comfort and be there for them but if they don’t want it, don’t pressure them let them at least know you will be there for them if they feel that it is needed.

I highly recommend Tammy as a speaker on driver and passenger safety. She shares her son’s story with heartfelt compassion, creating a powerful and personal connection with students. Her genuine concern for their well-being is evident, and her message truly resonates. Tammy’s dedication to promoting safety among young people is both inspiring and impactful.

Everything was awesome. Quick and easy set up-take down. Everyone was professional, easy to talk to and work with. Thank you for the important message you are working so hard to get out.

Hello Hillari – There are no words to describe how wonderful our day at school was yesterday. David was an outstanding speaker – his humor, music, honesty, was all spot on. Teachers were telling me this morning that yesterday was one of the best experiences in their 20 years of teaching. The students were still talking about it today, we have been able to have conversations about forgiveness, determination, will power, and decision making.

I enjoyed the presentation because the words that Steve was saying were really meaningful and truthful because he was being honest about the true consequences of drinking and driving. I would suggest that somebody would see this presentation because it had a big impact because of the story, How truthful and meaningful the presentation was, and the overall lesson about drinking and driving. I Suggest glenholme gets a guest speaker who is someone different to discuss a new topic which would be about D.A.R.E. 1 can relate to the story that steve empt was telling because when my sister was in south Dakota she crashed and flipped atv off a big
hill and got seriously hurt.

Thank you so much for helping to organize a really important message. Prom was the next day, and it was one of the best proms we have ever had since I have been here. I think the message the day before contributed to that and made students consider options and choices that they could or should make. We heard students talking about the message, so they were definitely paying attention.

Fletcher, thank you. You are like a ray of sunshine, shining through even the darkest times. I also envy how kind you are, not being mad at the lady? You’r ereally a great person. Thank you so so so much. You’re also really funny, as well as a good human being. I bet a lot of people were inspired, like me! Thank you for your wisdom!

When reflecting on the story that Chris Sandy told, it made me at first feel distant from the situation, but the more I heard about his life, the more personal it became. When just looking at the facts on the drunk driving incident at first it made me sad but didn’t really connect to me since it feels like a crazy, out of reach scenario. When Mr. Sandy continued to tell his life story, it personalized the situation and made it feel more tangible and real. I can’t imagine having to live with something like that and coming out a better person so it was really inspirational. I think he spreads a very important and emotional message that can really change perspectives and views and hopefully keep people from making similar mistakes.
